Stephen Lohmann Violin

San Francisco, CA

1985

Stephen Lohmann (b. 1951) is an American violin maker and restorer based in Fair Oaks, California. Born in Denver, he moved with his family to San Francisco, where he studied with violin maker Francis Kuttner before attending the International School of Violinmaking in Cremona, Italy. Returning to California, Lohmann worked with Frank Passa and later with Boyd Poulsen and Carl Applebaum. Since establishing his independent workshop in 1992, he has crafted instruments in the Italian tradition and earned honors at Violin Society of America competitions.

This violin showcases Lohmann’s hallmark crisp modeling and assured, responsive feel. It’s a beautiful instrument that’s easy to play, and would be as at home in a concert hall as in a living room.
