This German violin bears a Widhalm label, which points directly to one of the most prestigious and historically significant dynasties in 18th-century German luthiery. Based in Nuremberg, the Widhalm family—spearheaded by Leopold Widhalm (1722–1776)—is widely recognized as the preeminent German making circle following the legendary Jacob Stainer. This violin is a later copy of a Widhalm model.
