Nicolò Gagliano (c. 1710–1787) was a prominent Italian luthier and is widely considered the most influential figure in the Neapolitan school of violin making. As the eldest son of Alessandro Gagliano—the family’s founding patriarch—Nicolò refined his father's designs by blending traditional Neapolitan methods with the classical principles of Cremonese masters like Stradivari and Amati. His instruments often feature a unique scroll characterized by an elongated pegbox and a small, tight spiral.
