The esteemed Parisian firm, active from 1866 to 1892, produced over a thousand instruments and bows. Drawing on the tradition of their predecessor, Nicolas Lupot, Gand and Bernardel instruments are renowned for their fine French craftsmanship. They are typically based on classical Cremonese models (Stradivari), featuring a rich, full tone and a distinctive, translucent red or orange-brown varnish over a golden ground. Instruments from the firm are highly coveted by professional musicians and collectors.
