Sebastian Klotz (1696–1775) was a German violin maker and one of the finest craftsmen from the renowned Klotz family of Mittenwald. He learned the trade from his father, Mathias Klotz, who founded the Mittenwald school of violin making. Sebastian is admired for his precise and graceful work, which is often based on the Amati or Stainer models. His instruments feature moderate archings, fine purfling, and an excellent, powerful tone.
