About the Maker
1945- 2022. Born in Akita Japan in 1945, Tetsuo Matsuda first made guitars then entered the Cremona violin making school in 1977, graduating in 1981. The following year he won two silver medals in Cremona’s Stradivari International Violin Making Competition. He then moved to the USA to work for the William Harris Lee Violin Company in Chicago for 10 years before establishing his own workshop. In 1984 Tetsuo won two gold medals at the Violin Society of America (VSA) international makers competition. Matsuda made about 20 instruments a year and did not have any assistants.
This beautiful example of his work has a warm even sound with beautiful projection and easy sound production.
