A Violin by Peter Westerlund

Västerås, 2012

Peter Westerlund (b. 1950s) is a renowned contemporary Swedish luthier based in Västerås, recognized for his prolific output and "self-taught" approach to violin making. Despite his self-taught roots, Westerlund's work is internationally respected for competing with and occasionally outscoring antique Italian masters in blind tests. In 2021, he was awarded the Swedish King’s Medal for his "outstanding contributions as a violin maker".

Westerlund’s instruments are often featured in high-end shops in Europe, but are not as frequently found in the U.S., making this one a special find.
