William Whedbee is an American luthier originally from Hawaii, known for his work in Chicago. He attended the University of Chicago, and in 1976, trained at the Institute of Violin Making in Cremona, Italy. Returning to Chicago in 1979, he co-founded William Harris Lee's workshop. Since 1992, Whedbee has worked independently, building over 700 instruments. His cellos and violas, often inspired by Baroque Italian masters, are highly sought after by professionals worldwide.
