About the Maker
Ute Zahn grew up in Germany in a musical family. Since graduating from the Newark School of Violin Making in Newark, UK, she has worked (and continues to work) as a violin maker and restorer and freelance cellist in England, Hong Kong, Canada and Minnesota (where she currently resides). She teaches violin making at Southeast Technical College in Red Wing, Minnesota. Her belief in music as a power for good, combined with her love of teaching and an incurable travel bug, has led to her being the chair of Luthiers Sans Frontières— a nonprofit that provides repair services to musicians, orchestras, and ensembles in areas where no local services are available.
