About the Maker
Born in 1903 in Chianciano Italy, Alfio Batelli studied violin making with Valentino de Zorzi and Paoletti Vezio in Florence, Italy and then established his own business on Via Tito Speri in Florence. In 1947, he emigrated to Chicago and worked for Kagen & Gaines. In 1950 he moved to Los Angeles and worked for Hans Weisshaar, where he worked until establishing his own shop in Monterey Park, CA in 1963. Over the span of his career, he made more than 300 violins, violas, and cellos on classical models.
This violin is easy to play, has a rich and powerful sound, and an immense amount of character.
