Ernst Heinrich Roth I (1877–1948) was a distinguished German luthier who established a highly successful firm in Markneukirchen in 1902. Trained by his father and various European masters, Roth was renowned for his superb craftsmanship and musical knowledge. His finest violins, violas, and cellos, particularly those from the 1920s, are esteemed reproductions of Stradivari and Guarneri models, noted for their reddish-brown oil varnish and powerful, rich tone. The Roth firm continues today in Bubenreuth.
