Francesco Maurizi (1816–1903) was a prolific and distinct Italian luthier from the Marche region. Originally a farmer in Colli del Tronto, he was largely self-taught and began making instruments around 1840, often assisted by his son Giovanni. His violins are recognized for their consistent, albeit rustic, workmanship and highly individual style, which includes characteristic volutes and wide-set, narrow soundholes.
