Stephen Cournoyer is an American luthier dedicated to making, dealing, appraising, and restoring the violin family of instruments. Based in Gorham, Maine, he also maintains a studio in Westbrook. Cournoyer initially pursued music and was in the Air Force before discovering his passion for lutherie. He works seven days a week, often on multiple instruments, and notes that modern violin making is a continuation of the long, almost entirely hand-worked tradition.
