Douglas Cox (b. 1948) is an American luthier based in Brattleboro, Vermont, operating his own studio since 1985. He received his early training at the State Violin Making School in Mittenwald, Germany. Before dedicating himself to new work in 1981, he spent a decade as chief restorer in Boston. Cox has made over 1,000 violins, violas, and cellos, often as close copies of master instruments like those by Stradivari. His instruments have received awards from the Violin Society of America.
