About the Maker
Born in Mirecourt in 1841, Charles Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin first apprenticed with his father Claude Nicolas Collin, then became a pupil of Nicolas-François Vuillaume in Brussels. In 1867, Collin-Mézin moved to Paris where he established himself as a successful maker and restorer, working with many of the great soloists of the time including Joseph Joachim who played on a Collin-Mézin violin. He received several awards for varnish and tone in the Paris International Exhibitions of 1878-1900, and was awarded the title of Officier of the Académie des Beaux-Arts.
